The first time Sean and Anneka crossed paths was in freshman physics. Sean noticed Anneka because she was one of only two girls in the class. Anneka noticed Sean because he made no effort to hide the naps he took during lecture. We started dating senior year when we crossed paths again on the way to a senior class bar night (hitching a ride in the trunk of a Suburban).
The night before Sean proposed, he took Anneka to a see a show in San Francisco ("Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" by Tennessee Williams). That night he surreptitiously asked Anneka if he could make her breakfast in the morning given that she had been working late during the week. While that should have tipped Anneka off to something given that Sean never cooks anything that can't be eaten raw or microwaved, she didn't think anything of it. The next morning, Sean went to the grocery store to pick up ingredients for chocolate chip pancakes (and no, he didn't put the ring in the pancakes!). Sean cooked a delicious breakfast in bed.
After breakfast, Sean set aside the tray. "I have something I want to talk to you about," he said. He pulled out a ring (that he designed with a jeweler!) and proposed. Anneka said yes right away. She was completely taken by surprise. A few minutes later, Sean asked whether she meant to say yes given she still looked shocked. She did.
